Training with your Doberman
Do I really need to train my doberman?
Short answer: yes
Long answer: ab-so-freaking-lutely
Really long answer:
With any dog breed you own, you need to understand what their purpose is. Some dogs were bred to be hunters, others for herding, others for pest control, and the list can go on. The Doberman breed was originally bred for personal protection by Karl Friedrick Louis Dobermann, a tax collector who wanted a smart and agile protector while working in dangerous situations. This means your dog doesn’t just want to be with you, they want to work WITH you. It’s in their DNA! One of our favorite things about the Doberman breed is their versatility and intelligence. They enthusiastically want to tackle most any task as long as it’s with their people. Dobermans thrive in an environment in which they are not only physically stimulated but mentally stimulated as well – this includes more than the average 1-2 walks per day to "tire them out". Training your Doberman is a lifelong and daily commitment that all Doberman owners need to be prepared for. It is as necessary as food and water to your dog’s health and well-being. Whether it be agility, obedience, lure coursing, nose work, search and rescue, or protection work, your Doberman has the genetic predisposition to excel! We highly encourage every Doberman/owner team to find something that interests them. You will be amazed at what you and your dog can accomplish together.
Here are just a few facilities and trainers in our area that we have had personal experience working with, from Monroe WA to Portland OR. There are many tools that work for different dogs and it’s best to find the trainer that fits your dog’s needs best. It’s okay to go through a couple trainers before finding the perfect one for you and your dog, whether that be for obedience or any other sport.
If there is a sport you would like to get into that you do not see listed, feel free to contact us. We might not know but we can always find someone who does!
Trainer Referral List:
This does NOT discredit any trainer that is not on this list. These are simply trainers that we have personally worked with and have seen success with. We will continue to update this list as we work with more trainers.
